Religion… A Curse or a Saviour?

Religion is always a touchy subject. It has, and continues to be, the cause of many wars, many atrocities and many acts of ‘ethnic cleansing.’ Throughout history religious massacres and persecutions have resulted in millions of deaths through conflict and murder.

Did you know that, as of 2006, there were over 4,200 different religions. If you take into account the various factions and groups within those 4,200, there are over 43,800. These include  ‘mainstream religions’, denominations, religious bodies, faith groups, tribal beliefs and various ‘movements’ affiliated with one or more faith.

So, why should I talk about religion if it’s such a touchy subject?

I would like you to imagine, for a moment, that you have no religion. What happens? A feeling of fear? Of emptiness? Of being lost?

Could it be because all that you thought was you, the majority of your beliefs and values were conditioned into you, or taught to you, by your countries current religion?

If you take away religion, on an individual level, you are left with you. On a global level you are left with 6 billion people..you are part of that 6 billion..you are part of humanity, the people that live on this planet.

To be able to see the truth in religion, the real truth about spirituality and the universe, you need to be able to detach from your current viewpoint, which is blinkered by your current beliefs. There’s a saying that ‘The Truth Shall Set You Free’…..

So..what is the truth? The truth is whatever you choose to believe of your own free will based on your own observations, experiences and knowledge. To believe someone elses view of life and the way you should live it is to limit your self and your potential.

So, take away your religion for a while, observe your world and see where it leads you. When you ‘un-limit’ yourself, if only for a while, you open yourself to tremendous growth potential. You can see things from a different perspective, sometimes from many different perspectives..as you are no longer confined to your old thought patterns.

And where will this take you? I can’t tell you that, but I can tell you it opened my eyes, mind and heart to a much greater understanding and acceptance of the way this wonderful universe works. It brought me into contact with people I would not otherwise have met, people who have inspired and taught me so much. It made me more compassionate, more forgiving and much more ‘in tune’ with things and people around me.

So.. where will it take you? .. That decision is yours alone, but wherever it takes you, my love and blessings go with you on your journey.

Out of Body, but not of Mind

The other day I was a passenger on a bus. Not very interesting in itself, but with my habit of ‘people watching and listening’ it proved a very informative day.

Listening to a couple of elderly people complaining about rising prices and having a ‘competition’ to see whose state of health was worst!

Listening to a group of young mums all battling to say there child was the brightest, the smartest, the most athletic and the most likely to do well in life.

Listening to a group of older teenagers saying how they couldn’t find work..how they’d tried but given up in the hope that they could get free government handouts and training.

And finally, the bus driver, saying how he wished he could win the lottery so he could live the life of his dreams.

So many sad and despondent people, so many people in competition with one another, people with no hope or future that they could see.

And I asked myself the question…is this the way society (and millions of people) across the globe see the world??

Inspiration, hope, love and a helping hand are so urgently needed at this time. Maybe a realization of who and what they are would help..so this post and the ones that follow arededicated to all those people…

I would like you to read this, then close your eyes and try it out… not once or twice, but everyday. It will remind you of who you REALLY are, WHERE you are and help you find WHY you are here, now, at this time.

Sit or lay down, take a few deep, controlled breaths and close your eyes. Continue to focus on your breathing, slowly, but deeply in and out. As you focus on your breathing, sounds around you will fade into the distance as you become focused only on your breathing.

Feel yourself becoming very light, light as a feather, gently floating..allow yourself to rise…gently and slowly.

What will happen?

Your first step to an out of body experience. Some people do it first time, others a little longer. It varies depending on how relaxed you are and how powerful your visualizations become.

You may hear sounds (like the wind, music or voices).. these are natural, so don’t worry. You’re simply moving to another energy level, slightly higher than this physical plane ( some would say the astral plane).

Practice this technique and you can have some wonderful experiences..and always keep in mind.. YOU are in control.. I’ll explain more in my next post.

Until then… Happy Travelling!

The Mayonnaise Jar, Golf Balls, Pebbles, Sand and Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are simply not enough…remember the mayonnaise jar…and the coffee.

A Professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, without saying anything, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

Te Professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.

He shook the jar gently, and the smaller pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full, again they agreed it was.

The Professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked the students once more if the jar was full, and the students responded with a unanimous ‘Yes’.

The Professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand grains. The students laughed.

‘Now,’ said the Professor, as the laughing subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.’

The golf balls are the important things. Your family, your children, your faith, your health, your friends and your favorite passions. Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter. Your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else..the small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first, he continued, ten there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children, Take time to get medical checkups, Take your partner out for dinner. there will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of your golf balls first, the things that really matter, set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and asked what the coffee represented.

The Professor smiled. ‘I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.’
